the painting

Here’s what I was up to yesterday:

I’ve also uploaded several paintings from over the years to my flickr account. Yesterday’s work (as shown above) is up there too. The work was inspired by ADD and a meditation and I’ve added notes to the picture for explanatory purposes. Visit my flickr account to read those notes and for the newly created My art category. I’ll be brave and continue to populate it with more stuff. I’ll also keep creating new work since I’m really pleased with what I turned out yesterday. It was cathartic and necessary.

  1. Thanks for sharing this and even cooler is the notes you put on the picture on Flickr. I’ve never seen an artist do that and it gave us a small peek inside your mind which I loved.

Please keep painting. I VERY much dig your style.

  2. How big is the new painting? I’m glad you are painting again.

You may or may not remember that I own 5 of your works–the blue nude on wood, the black and white lone figure, the clouds, the Beethoven, and your last abstract.

I remember the commission painting you did in Pittsburgh for a nice chunk of change!

Also, the portrait sketches you did for people when you were in junior high, and the fantastic portrait of Collin.

The new painting is a more mature style than a lot of what you have done before. Is that where you’re headed, or is it just the way you felt this one? And I don’t mean mature as in “better than”. I think (not sure) I mean less striving for total abstraction. This feels more you. More like the way you may need to go naturally…to say what you want to say.

P.S. I do have more lonely, empty walls, you know.

  3. Thank you, Mom! I take the ‘mature’ comment as a compliment. ๐Ÿ™‚

There is something more ‘me’ to this one. I felt it more. There will be more… possibly soon.

I totally agree. There is something special here which simply feels right.
All I ask, jEN, is to not try to anticipate the next one, let it happen without preconceptions or expectations. Whether it’s in a day, week, or a year’s time, let it out when it’s ready.
We are both on a very interesting creative journey right now and I am delighted we are able to share the ride.

Mom, I’ll make a deal with you: I would love to have this hanging here, but I’ll give it up to fill your wall space if you come and get it in person ๐Ÿ˜‰

  5. With the way things are going in my life now, a visit this year or next is looking more and more probable, so you keep that deal open, Neil ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh, and I have room, too, for a watercolor…I do believe I see a small group of taxi drivers in my future ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Hey you two! What if I wanna keep it? ๐Ÿ˜›

I’ll make moreโ€šร„รถ?ร‘?ร† plenty to go round, aight? ๐Ÿ˜€
