the search for a photoblog app

Good morning kitties!

I’m in the mood to create a proper photoblog… not just the dotmac that you’ve seen, but something better managed and constructed.
Thanks to Kev at Darkest Before Dawn, I’ve grabbed Pixelpost and installed it on my local machine for a play. I noticed that the Pixelpost site also links to three other photoblog solutions, so I’m looking at those too. So far, at just a glance, Photoblogger looks a little immature from the layout and admin pages. It could be robust behind the scenes, I truly couldn’t say, but if I don’t have a decent admin page to deal with then I’m not going to have patience with it. I also have the sites up for folderblog and for Birch.
Both of those look quite nice. I’ll play with the one Kev has chosen, Pixelpost, first and let you know what I think. I may monkey with the other two serious options as well, but they don’t look as fully featured as Pixelpost… and I know me- if I have lots of features to play with, then stepping down to something simpler usually disappoints me. Kinda like going from PrintMaster Gold to working with Quark… once I went Quark I couldn’t touch that other stupid app even to make a simple greeting card. You can’t go home again, so they say. But who knows, maybe I want something to just slap pics up with… but then again, that’s what I’ve had with dotmac* all along isn’t it?

Let the fun begin… I’ll show you what I come up with. 😀

*.Mac page ceased to exist 30, June 2009.

  1. Hi jEN,

I look forward to seeing what you come up with. I agree with your ‘PrintMaster Gold /Quark’ comparison, with me it was anything and PageMaker (Kev shows his age!)

Pixelpost fits what I was from a photoblog, at least just now but what I would really like is an application that was comfortable being both a photoblog and gallery and share the same style. For my gallery, as you know I am using ‘yapig’ but I am starting to feel thai it is not as mature in some respects.

Okay there is plenty of light out side so I am off to get some pic while I can!
