Garden time!

garden (cameraphone)
A quick snap from my cameraphone today. It’s chilly out, drizzling off and on, and overcast, but I got some time in the garden anyway. I ordered shrubs from a company in Holland and got all seven in the ground this afternoon. They’ve been planted along the green fence (which isn’t ours) and should be quick-growing. Ordering plants from the internet is interesting- I have no say in which plants I get (normally, I’m very funny about the condition and look of what I buy) but I have the convenience of staying at home, receiving at home, and not wasting loads of time and money at the garden centre. If I’d gone to the garden centre, I would have easily spent twice as much and my impatience would’ve demanded larger plants to start with. Now that I know what to expect, I’ll probably place another order for plants to go behind the seating along the bamboo screen.

The grass didn’t do great over the winter and will require seeding, but on the plus side, the sod has rooted. Most of the other plants have made it through the cold months and even my weak-looking trees are showing signs of life.

It won’t be long before it’s warm enough to spend a little bit of time down there. šŸ™‚

  1. Very pretty!

We have lots of random things sprouting in our garden at the moment, including roses and daffodils. Bob’s mum is helping us (well… helping Bob) sort out the garden. She keeps telling me what all of the other plants are, but I can’t remember. I get to play with chemicals (spray weedkiller on things) while they dig/plant/whatever.

  2. Thank you! I’m so very ready to be in the garden. I can’t wait to be able to use the balcony too.

I just placed a second order with the company I linked to in the post. I’m getting a dwarf bamboo (how could I resist that!), more of the same shrubs that were in the first order, and some white Astilbe.

The company sends free bulb things with every order and so that gives me a total of 100 flowers to plant too! I have no idea what to do with them right now, but I’m sure something will come to me. šŸ™‚

  3. Nope, our spoiled little fishies haven’t gone back out yet. We think there might be frog spawn in the pond, so we’re waiting for a few more weeks to see if we have any tadpoles. šŸ˜€

(I’d be so excited if we had baby frogs!)
