I wore my devil horns-n-hair to work today. I got so many positive comments from the public I deal with– so cool.

Rarr.

I’m home from work and check my email.

J- “Next week’s Tchibo catalogue is kind of crap.”

N- “Why?”

J- [in a sultry voice-over tone] “The Charm of Christmas. Festive Home and Kitchen Week.”

I scroll through the product pictures.

J- “You can get a cuckoo clock… that’s pretty crap.”
pause to browse
“Ooh! I cheese shaver! … You know, the kind that takes a great big wheel of cheese?”

N- [He sounds disappointed.] “Oh… I thought it was a shaver made of cheese.”

J- “Your mornings would be so much more enjoyable, wouldn’t they…”

Note: this household has an unhealthy love for cheese. One of our fond holiday memories of our time in Malta was the totally awesome cheese board we ordered in the posh coffee bar at the hotel. Mmmm…

This is the first post since migrating my Ecto blogging stuff over to the new machine.

I must say, the thrill is here. I haven’t had a new Mac in years and this little sweetie - delivered just this morning - is a treat. I’ve been living with my work spread between three (though mostly two) older Macs for years and this latest edition to our Apple family is going to become my new mobile/main workstation. No longer will I need to do graphics/photography/web/webdev/email/chat on the desktop and writing on the old Powerbook 667Mhz (which replaced my Powerbook G3 500Mhz Pismo that now resides in the living room for quick lookups whilst watching telly), nope - this MacBook Pro can do it all and do it fast.

I’m so very pleased so far. Plus, thanks to our timing, we get a (basically) free upgrade to Leopard (the latest OS). Pretty cool.

A perfect sea breeze made the heat of the sun bearable. We sunbathed for only a few hours on our last full day in Malta. I escaped without much more than a slight darkening of freckles (thanks to the products seen in the shot), but Neil burned a bit after only relying on body hair for protection. (Not a totally ridiculous idea, as his hair typically protects him from insect bites… ;) ) He has vowed to use a more widely accepted method of sun protection in the future.

Photos from the holiday in Malta are going up in a trickle to flickr. Do stay tuned.

Sorry about the blog downtime; our hosting company was physically moving their equipment to a new headquarters.

All seems up and running now. :)

Truth is, I barely slept in Malta. Not that I was some party hard holiday freak — on the contrary, I was acting my age with aplomb and simple grace in the poshy poshy hotel — but I must say that when it comes to a restful night of sleep, that our own bed cannot be beat. I had a snooze this afternoon. Bliss. Utter bliss.

The hotel? A five-star Radisson SAS. It’s an amazing place to stay and one could easily remain within the bounds of the private beach, spa, several restaurants, and triple towers without so much as a fleeting thought about exploring the rest of the island. But the beds… oh! the tragedy that is their beds.

Soft and squidgy. Unsupportive. I was up every night like it was some sort of insidious plan to get me to use my complimentary embroidered slippers at 3AM. Pace, pace, check window, dark outside, crickets - nice to hear crickets, pace, toilet, flush, crash back into bed. I couldn’t even annoy the next room over with the flushing of the toilet since the walls were so adequately thick. Nope, alone in my suffering regarding the most expensively unpleasant bed I think I’ve ever slept in (’slept’ not being quite the right word). Neil was able to cope with a ceiling fan but I could not make friends with the bed. The ceiling fan could’ve crashed down on top of us and I would’ve been grateful for any restful unconscious time beneath its heavy motor. Why is it that the thing most crucial for a hotel to get right is the thing often most in need of improvement?

Positive holiday tales and loads of photos to come. But not tonight…
I’m mighty sleepy this evening and am going to go give my bed a hug.
It will hug back.
It’s awesome like that.

He’s sitting here on the reception sofa with me, tipsy on several drinks (mostly Long Island Iced Teas), and quite audibly making known his desire for posh chocolate cake.

It’s actually quite reassuring, knowing that the workaholic that is my husband can let his hair down. (And his pants, as he has just enthused.) I should also add, that he is annoyingly reading out loud all I type from over my shoulder. Did I mention, ‘annoyingly’?

Best holiday, evah.
Good night. I must put him to bed now… ;)
…erm, after he looks up The Shadows… the Musak band playing on the intercom system in the hotel lobby tonight. He is reminiscing with regards to his first electric guitar (and is telling me what to type at this point. God help me…)

And he wishes me to mention: cheese trousers.

Live(ish) from Malta…

We’re having a great time and the resort is incredible! It’s storming outside right now (a good ‘proper’ sea storm) but the WiFi is working again and all is well. We’ve been pampered in the spa with massages and mud wraps, have been swimming in the warmest indoor pool ever, and horseback riding. We plan on driving around tomorrow to visit harbours and cliffs and medieval cities.

That’s all for now… must shut down the computer and escape the looped music in the lobby - it’s a mix of things but seems to be dominated with the cinema soundtrack to Last of the Mohicans. I like it, but we’ve heard it a dozen times now and the desire to run behind waterfalls with soggy firearms has long passed. ;)
