Neil and I went on adventures today. I posted some pictures up on flickr.
Above are two of them.

It’s been a positively wonderful day. 🙂

  1. I wish I saw and heard your last sentence more often.
We are all so good at moaning.
Now I’ve had a terrible day – let me tell you about it ………………..

  2. As usual, your photos are ace.

Can I ask which filters you use? Particularly for that faded edges effect on the top photo.

    Love it!

  3. Thanks Geneva sweetie! 😀

I have my own workflow I do in Photoshop (CS1) which, depending on the shot, typically consists of using Neat Image to reduce noise, then I sharpen areas using the High Pass trick, then I duplicate the background, multiply it and erase the parts I don’t want double saturated, then I often add a black stroke and blur it over 100. That’s the technique in a nutshell. 🙂

Sometimes shots require more than that, but not often. The yellow flowers one was much more work than most. The original shot is quite ordinary and nothing stood out in it. It took about 5 copies of the background shot in various stages of manipulation and colour correction to get it where it is now…

  4. Oh, (nearly forgot this bit), I use a custom setting on my Canon 350d that helps mimic Velvia film. Makes the colours really rich to begin with. Using layers of the background, levels, and the multiply blending mode can achieve something close on non-SLRs. My little 4 megapixel Sony Cybershot can achieve great stuff with a little help. 🙂

  5. Wow, thanks Jen.

And here I was thinking that you use one of the high spec SLRs.

I do have to admit, as much as I love my nikon, I sometimes find it a pain in the ass because of its size. Wouldn’t change it for the world, though.

  6. I use a Canon EOS 350d (8mp), a Sony Cybershot DSC-F707 (5mp), and a Sony Cybershot DSC-P41 (4mp).

Sometimes I get a pretty good shot with my Sony camera phone as well, though that camera (3mp) is typically a last resort and only if I have nothing else on me. 🙂
