Details are fuzzy (not so unlike my hair in the photo below)

Grandma has broken two vertebrae and has a swollen spine. She will need a neck brace and rehabilitation. Surgery at her age (86) is not an option. One of her legs is exhibiting a weaker response and there is a 50/50 chance of it getting back to normal. No one knows what happened yet. Grandma is on heavy pain medication and cannot communicate coherently right now. Hopefully, as the dosage is reduced, she will be able to tell us some details. Her car is being transported back to her house; no one (in the family) knows what state the vehicle is in.

To most of you this update is irrelevant. However, some of you have met her, and some of you have heard me talk about my Grandma in conversation or anecdotes. She’s an awesome lady and I love her very much. She’s spirited, imaginative, silly, and a friend. She’s also a pretty tough cookie, but at 86, even tough cookies are a little slower to recover. If you think about it, throw a spare positive vibe her way today. Thank you. :)

Disney with Grandma - 1984
Picture above: me and my Grandma at Disney World Florida, 1984.
She had never been out of Indiana before – or again after* – this trip.
This was, unfortunately, not my last perm.

(*Mom, correct me if I’m wrong.)

*positive vibes flowin’ her way*….whichever way that is – not great at geography I’m afraid.

I am sending positive vibes, although almost a complete stranger. And that perm is very scary!!!

Sending positive vibes for your Grandma.

Did the perm go solo in the end? I am sure I saw it on TV in the late 80′s. :)

Many thanks to you all! No news beyond what I’ve reported yet. That’s actually a good thing, I think.

And yes, the perm was scary stuff… especially since I had no idea how to tame it. That knowledge came later, though still the abridged edition, if photos serve as evidence of ability.

Kev, you’re so eagle-eyed… I think you may have spotted my perm on an episode of “Where are They Now” after it landed in rehab with the Bon Jovi coifs around ’86. ;)

I actually have 80′s hair envy of that perm. I think in 84 I had a little girl mullet. :( Many good vibes to grandma.

I’m SO wishing the big 80s hair would come back round. Oh, and the make-up… the leg-warmers and jackets with folded up sleeves can stay away though :D

All the best to your Grandmother – here’s hoping things settle down.
