I can’t be the only one who finds hygienic ritual gets in the way of perfectly good task time. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good shower like any number of bipeds do, but I hate having that prime thinking time washed down the drain with nowhere to jot ideas. You can’t drag a notebook into the shower: gets all wet. You can’t have a voice recording device: gets all wet. Not even going to consider video equipment: this isn’t ‘that’ kind of site.
But seriously, don’t you need a special cleaning fluid to wipe certain whiteboards clean? You can’t use normal water to get the ink off, so wouldn’t it be a natural assumption that you could hang a whiteboard in the bath for those genius sparks of inspiration as you scrub behind your ears? Or even just to draw funny pictures inspired by suds?
I just realised that I probably haven’t outgrown tub toys…
So it’s just a thought. (One that occurred in the shower today. See? See? I should’ve had a whiteboard in there…)

Get yourself an A4 zip wallet, some carbon paper and a sheet of normal A4…

Holy cow Steve! You are near genius. I shall have to make a trip to Staples for supplies…
Thanks for that, you crafty dude.

That was the high-point of my productivity today…

Should I implement the suggestion, I’ll of course document and post the results here.

Hi Jen
I found your blog through Matt Gifford’s page and as a proud owner of a PADI Open Water Diver’s Licence, I would recommend you to get a diver’s “notepad”, called slate:

No more wasted time under the shower!

Hi Zsu! Welcome to my blog
Whoa! that’s a great idea too! Nice and pre-fab… There goes my trip to Staples.

I sooo think its a GREAT idea - I solve 90% of all of my coding problems in the shower each morning.
Maybe its a girl geek thing?

Perhaps it is.

Mmm, girl geeks.

OK, that came out all stalkery and wrong. I mean it in a nice way. I do. Really.

Aw Pete, it’s more than OK to think about girl geeks in the shower…

No Jen! No!
Don’t get the underwater slate! It’s so… well simple
I like Steve’s solution it’s much more hackerish.
It’s also a cross-platform solution because it works in the bath too! Which is, btw, a much better problem sovling environment, at least for chaps.
But now you’ve fixed the “writing in the shower problem” what about the “getting a candle to burn in the shower problem”? I tried putting it in a zip lock bag but it kind of half melted and got stuck together with wax, so no joy there
Mind you, if you solved that then women would spend hours in the shower as well the bath!
What is it with women and candles in the bathroom???
(sorry about the non-xhtml compliant tags)

Wait… isn’t that like saying divers can only use the slate on the boat?
>What is it with women and candles in the bathroom???
I can’t really say. I have enjoyed the experience a few times but it’s kind of a pain to set them all out and then put them all away when I’m done. It is very spa-like and romantically indulgent I guess. (Plus, in low light, my legs don’t look so hairy before shaving!
