The blog facelift is coming along

Remember when I mentioned that I am tired of my current blog look? Sure it’s clean, mostly functional (I’m sneering at you, Internet Explorer), and has served me well for more months than I can remember. Ah- but change is afoot. After having downloaded and played with a handful of existing WordPress templates, I settled on one that I thought had enough promise in the right direction for me to customise. I find that my reasonably competent knowledge of CSS is also my curse as I poke around and tweak this new code (read: I’m finding flaws in the way things are done in the template). Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad I’m not writing this from scratch, but it’s still not going as quickly as I’d hoped. Of course I could have installed the new template as is and it would’ve worked just fine, but it wouldn’t have my personality. So I keep digging and tweaking. I’m definitely going to launch it this week (I’ve just been lazy about working on it).

The header graphic is now finished and overall the new look is a complete departure from the current feel, but that’s not a bad thing. I had some ideas in my head that I just couldn’t accomplish right away in Photoshop, but after enough running in circles and thinking it through, I’ve cracked it. As for code issues, I’ve also got to sort the sidebar lists CSS and php categories for links, but after that it’s about ready to serve.

Stay tuned…

  1. Thanks Brian! Glad to see you around again… you went quiet for awhile.
I’m pleased with the new look but have some tweaks to iron out over the weekend. That’s what I get for going from nice and tidy Kubrick to a second or third generation, somewhat bloated template. (But then, I wouldn’t be satisfied without a challenge! 😉 )

  2. Quiet is the understatement of the year. I’ve been a little busy but things are finally calming down. Kubrick is a great template to base off of and I changed mine, for instance, to an extreemly clean and simple template. Too much just gets in the way.
