And on your left you’ll see a block of flats

Thanks to Googlesightseeing.com for truly addicting me to the Google Maps feature of Google. They’ve just added the UK to the satellite imagery so I foresee several wasted hours looking things up from above. (Neil’s almost worse than I am!)

I thought I’d give you all a chance to see where I live. Here it is. In delightfully drab colour. That’s as tight as the zoom goes, but it’s still enough to get a sense of my daily surroundings. Welcome to my neighbourhood, kitties. :) The folks at Google Maps keep adding higher resolution imagery all the time, so keep nosing around for improvements wherever you explore. I can’t wait to see some of the stone circles and other ancient phenomena from the satellite’s eye!
Enjoy!

Nice. My town is one big blur. Fun to play with though :D

I wish I knew the criteria for what Google Maps decides to prioritise into high resolution. Sometimes the most remote areas are surprisingly detailed, yet populated areas are grainy, blurry and only available at half zoom.

It’s interesting- Google has forever changed the way we search for information, and now it’s forever changing the way we actually look at the world. It’s amazing to see forests and volcanos, stadiums and shorelines. * sigh * I am such an information whore. :)

Nice to see that you have picked up on the vernacular : flat instead of apartment …… soon you’ll be eating crisps instead of chips and chips instead of fries !

Actually, Richard, I’ve been a good little expat for some time now. ;) Having been exposed to Brit comedies and dramas on TV from an early age in the US, I’ve never felt much of the lingo was ‘foreign’ really. Now, rhyming slang- forget it. I can only understand Apples n’ Pears at this point! :)

The one term that I do have difficulties with is ‘pants.’ Not when it’s referring to a crappy thing, but using it for underwear. I’m embracing the word ‘trousers’- though I find it conjures up images of geriatrics when I use it… * sigh * I’m still a work in progress. ;)
